How To Make A Romantic Breakfast
Learn how to make a romantic hearts breakfast! This makes a great surprise ‘breakfast in bed’ or simply a romantic couples breakfast at the table together. Perfect for an anniversary, Valentine’s Day or other special occasion. Included eggs, french toast and strawberries. Recipe is listed below.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- One red bell pepper
- Two eggs
- Four pieces of sliced bread
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp of nutmeg
- Butter
- 4 to 5 strawberries
- Powdered sugar
- Small sprig of mint for garnish
- Small fry pan
- Pancake griddle or crepe pan
- Spatula
- A deep dish (such as a pie pan)
- One heart-shaped cookie cutter
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Slice the red bell pepper widthwise into 1/2 inch (13mm) slices. Remove core and seeds (try to find a bell pepper that closely resembles a heart.) Set slices aside.
- Notch out top of each strawberry, as shown in the video. Then make thin slices and set aside.
- Using the heart-shaped cookie cutter, press into each slice of bread and remove the outside scraps. Set heart-shaped slices aside.
- In a deep dish, combine 1 egg, milk, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir. Then set aside.
- In a small fry pan, over medium-low heat, place a slice of butter and melt in pan (spread around the cooking surface).
- Place 1 bell pepper slice in the center of the melted butter (or two slices if you prefer to serve more food).
- With the second egg, separate the white and carefully pour about 1/2 to 2/3 of the white into the middle of the bell pepper, as shown in the video. Be careful not to add too much of the egg white or it will spill over the edge of the bell pepper and result in a messy appearance. (Note: If you add too much egg white, it may take too long to fully cook and you’ll end up burning the bottom.) Also, you can cover the pan with a lid if you prefer your eggs thoroughly cooked. But beware not to overcook or else the bell pepper might become too soft.
- Carefully add the egg yolk into the center of the bell pepper and egg white. Let cook for 5-8 minutes while you cook the heart-shaped French toast.
- Heat the pancake griddle (or crepe pan). Gently dip each slice of bread into the egg/milk/cinnamon/nutmeg mixture. (Note: Do not oversaturate the bread or it will get soggy and be difficult to flip, and possibly lose its heart shape. Just coat each side of the bread.) Then place the coated bread slices onto the griddle or pan. Let it brown lightly then flip.
- Once cooked, remove the bell pepper and egg from pan. Place onto a plate.
- After each side of the French toast is lightly browned, remove from griddle and fan them artfully on the plate, above the bell pepper and egg.
- Dust the French toast with powdered sugar.
- Arrange a few strawberry “hearts” on top of the French toast. Do not over apply them or it will look messy. 2-3 slices on each toast looks fine.
- Add a sprig of mint as garnish.
- Include a glass of orange juice and maple syrup on the side if you desire.
- Serve to your loved one in bed!
